Kelham Island: 1940s Wakes Weekend, 31st July & 1st August 2010
To celebrate the opening of the new National Fairground Archive Resource Room at Kelham Island Industrial Museum we present a free event recapturing the 1940s Wakes Weekend / Holidays at Home.
The weekend is based on the 1940s and features entertainers and entertainments such as the Flea Circus, Everly Pregnant Brothers, Steve Faulkner (escapologist), Danger Boys (street Theatre), Rick Maynard, Paul Harper (1940s singer) and Tim Handley (1940s dance and music). There will be a showing of vintage entertainment films, a vintage craft and clothes market, living history activities for all the family, a 1940s menu at the Furnace Cafe, and the usual attractions of the Kelham Island Industrial Museum such as the mighty River Don Engine.
The National Fairground Archive Resource Room will be opened (further details on this to follow).
Entry is free of charge, and the event runs from 11am through to 5pm on both days
