Visiting the NFA
The reading room is open to all visitors with desk space for up to eight people and a seated area for visitors wishing to browse our books and printed resources. This page outlines how to organise your visit to the NFA and the scale of charges for our various services.
Opening times - Monday to Thursday:
09-30 to 13-00 and 14-00 to 16-30 (Please note - Thursday visits strictly by appointment only). If the reading room has a scheduled closure then this will be broadcast well in advance on our news page.
Booking - you can drop in any time between Monday and Wednesday but it may be helpful to
book in advance. This will enable us to advise you on any materials that
we can to provide for your specific research. In addition, be aware that archival material that is kept in other locations to the reading room will need to be requested in advance of your visit. If you wish to enquire about visiting on a Thursday then it is essential to contact us in advance.
Resources - The Archive has a
reading room containing a core stock of books, journals and pamphlets.
Electronic resources available to all users include our dedicated
image database (with full printing facility), family history databases,
and journal indexes. University of Sheffield members are also allowed
access to web-based electronic resources. Our other resources must be requested prior to visiting and be available for viewing on arrival - these are all listed on our website in the holdings section.
Directions - see the following
link.
