Visiting the NFA - Copying of Materials
Articles
The NFA holds a wide range of printed material such as books, journals and unique ephemera, and appreciates that these are used by large numbers of the user base. At the same time the NFA is committed to working within existing copyright laws regarding the copying of any printed work kept within its collections.
The NFA has photocopying facilities which are charged at the standard University of Sheffield rate for copying material.
Fragile material that is unsuitable for photocopying will be copied using a digital camera. This material can then be printed, emailed or transferred to a digital storage device as a standard jpeg file. Costs for this are the same and are £1-00 per capture.
If a user wishes to capture material using their own digital camera then we can permit this. All users are required to keep within copyright guidelines when copying material and, in addition, any users creating their own digital copies are further required to sign a copyright form stating that they will not create further digital files or multiple copies from their digital file(s). The NFA will identity mark any digital files created of material that has a high a visual value (posters, ephemera) to prevent unauthorised publication or exhibition.
Images
The NFA database holds approximately 100,000 images. At present this database runs solely in the Reading Room, however there are plans to make this resource freely available over the internet in the coming year. The images from the Reading Room database can be printed as a single printed image or a smaller image with an associated database record at the standard printing costs. Alternatively images can be downloaded at database resolution and taken away on a digital stick or similar device. All images are for personal and study use only, and, once supplied, are not allowed to be copied or distributed in any way. In addition, it must be noted that any images held by the NFA as part of general collections that are not the copyright of the NFA cannot be supplied for users under any circumstances whatsoever.
- Printing costs for University staff and students: 5p per sheet black and white, 50p per sheet colour
- Printing costs for external users: 6p per sheet black and white, 65p per sheet colour
If you require images at a higher resolution for a specific project then we will be happy to talk to you about costs and procedures.
