Requesting Articles
The NFA carries a wide range of books and journals and
appreciates that these are used by large numbers of the user base. At
the same time the NFA is committed to working within existing copyright
laws regarding the copying of any printed work kept within its collections.
For users visiting the archive
The NFA permits the use of digital cameras for
creating copies of printed text material. In some situations with
fragile material the user creating a digital copy creates less stress
on the original than submitting it to the photocopier. Certain rare or fragile books, and copies of the World's Fair newspaper, are not available for copying by archive users, and this material will be copied on behalf of the user by NFA staff. All users
are required to keep within copyright guidelines when copying material
and, in addition, any users creating their own digital copies are
further required to sign a copyright form stating that they will
not create further digital files or multiple copies from their digital
file(s). The NFA will will identity mark any digital files created
of material that has a high a visual value (posters, ephemera) to
prevent unauthorised publication or exhibtion.
The NFA also has photocopying facilities charged
at the standard University of Sheffield rate for creating copies
of material. External users are required to purchase a copycard
for the fee of £1-00, and this can then be credited for photocopying
at any of the value-loader machines alongside the copiers. At present
copy costs are 5p per black and white A4 copy for students and staff,
and 6p per A4 copy for external users. Serviced copying carried out by NFA staff on behalf of the visitor is charged at 18p per black and white A4 sheet, 36p per A3 sheet, with a flat administrative fee of £5-00 per transaction.
For users requesting the supply of articles
The NFA asks all users unable to visit the archive
but requiring extracts and articles to approach the NFA through
their Inter Library Loan system within their nearest local library.
Any users requiring help with this system are welcome to contact
the NFA. Copies of material from the World's Fair newspaper can be supplied at the above rate, though please see our separate page for details of associated research costs in regard to locating articles.
