Title: The David Braithwaite Collection

Scope: Braithwaite was the author of 'Savages of Kings Lynn' and 'Fairground Architecture'. This wonderful collection is made up of images taken by Braithwaite from the 1950s and used towards his publications alongside older images collected from other sources.

Administrative / biographical history: David Braithwaite is perhaps best known for his two seminal works Fairground Architecture and Savage of Kings Lynn.

He was born in Luton, Bedfordshire on the 6th of October 1932. Brought up in Northampton he developed a love of fairgrounds. In his later life he was a successful architect working on, amongst other projects, the Hall of Mirrors at Madame Tussaud's in London. In 1975 he was a prime mover in the rescue of the Savage Company Archives from King's Lynn.

During the 1970's he acquired the Orton and Spooner Archive which formed the basis of a book he was preparing to write at the time of his untimely death on July 4th 1982.

His collection of fairground related material has recently been donated to the National Fairground Archive by his widow Joanna and daughter Naomi.
