World's Fair newspaper
The World's Fair newspaper served primarily as an organ
of communication between the showmen in the UK. In an era long before
the internet and mobile phone technology, the newspaper served a variety
of roles: advertising grounds, buying and selling fairground aspects,
as well as family announcements. Reporting from the fairground became
a popular theme, and this served a function for the growing 'enthusiast
community' who looked upon the fairground as their hobby. In turn, many
of the early enthusiasts were integral in establishing the preservation
movement, and the modern day World's Fair newspaper reports in equal measure
from the fairground and the world of fairground preservation.
