The following images come from the collection of David
Braithwaite, kindly donated by Joanna Braithwaite. David was an active
author and researcher, whose profession as an architect led him to an
interest in the design and structure of fairground rides and the tober
itself. David's images strive to capture more expressive aspects of the
fairground alongside structural dissections of build-ups and pull-downs.
This first collection covers David's visits to Nottingham
Goose Fair, commencing in 1956. Some of this material was used for his
book "Fairground Architecture".

Decorative shutters on Silcock's Waltzer.

A colour image packed with vision and activity. Hibble and Mellors' Dodgem form a bright back-drop.

Another colour shot from 1956 - with Codona's Maxwell Jets and Pat Collins' Orton Super Speedway.

Pat Collins' Scammell Showtrac - The Leader - alongside the Dodgem track.

A land-mark - the twin Big Wheels of weston and Williams.

Proctor's Circus Show - part of the show line tradition at the Goose Fair.

J. P. Collins' Lakin Waltzer - the original machine - another Goose Fair regular.

Frenetic activity on the Caterpillar - the fusion of joy and mechanical
activity a typical Braithwaite image.
